Navy nails

So I’ve been looking for a nice navy lately. I haven’t painted my nails in years for a combination of reasons (chipping and chemicals primarily) but I really wanted to paint them recently. This is Wet n Wild noctural (238?) I wish it were a little more obviously navy instead of almost black. Yes?No? Suggestions for a better navy?

Pur Minerals Starter Kit – review

One of my requested Christmas presents this year was the Pur Minerals Starter Kit in Golden Warm.

The kit consists of a foundation, bronzer, blush and chisel brush.

I am disappointed that I researched the heck out of the foundation ingredients but neglected to notice that the bronzer has parabens. It’s not even a good bronzer at that in my opinion. Sigh.

I LOVE the foundation however. I have a hard time finding a good match for my skin that doesn’t look like I’m either jaundiced (yellow) or washed out. The Golden Medium works really well and seems to be a very neutral color. I like that I’ve found a fairly healthy foundation that is a pressed powder that evens out my skin tone and can cover under-eye circles. It’s not too heavy, not too light, lasts all day and doesn’t break me out. I can skip the bronzer because it doesn’t wash me out though I still prefer to use a bronzer.

The brush is decent. I don’t own a kabuki or chisel brush so this is a good addition to my collection but I think there could be better versions out there. This one was a bit scratchy the first few times I used it. I will continue to use it because it does a good job but I’m not blown away here.

The blush I can’t really comment on because my cheeks have a pinkish undertone so blush of any kind makes me look like a clown. I tried it on my hand and it seemed like it could be a good color for anyone who regularly wears blush.

I’m out of the starter kit foundation. The pan was fairly shallow and looks like the full size the same depth. Starter kit size is 0.15oz and full size is 0.28oz. I rarely finish and re-buy a powder foundation though.

Photo of the day – Dec 10 2009

Some basic business attire from yesterday. The red flats I recently bought, a pair of dark dark grey pants with a tiny light green pinstripe that are at least 3 years old, and a white acrylic sweater I don’t remember buying but it feels so much like cashmere I checked the tag before I tossed it in the wash. Earrings, gift from mom from Greece trip, and the necklace is a couple dollars worth of flea market finds someone brought to a beading party (thanks Betsy!)

A bit of non-clothing info: I am LOVING the beadboard WALLPAPER I put up in the dining room that you can see here. $25 a roll and I almost did it in one roll (would have been able to if I hadn’t messed up a few pieces.) So $50 and the room looks SO much better. Inspiration from Southern Hospitality’s blog here:

Check it out and the links to the beadboard wallpaper projects other people did as well.

Next house project is removing the textured ceiling and giving everything in there a good coat of paint. I plan on doing a light ale yellow above the chair rail.

The tree in the photo was the display tree that was over half off and came with the lights on it. I love the urn base.

I have a small live arbor vite(sp)  in the living room where the palm tree was this summer that is decorated and will get planted after the holiday season. This artificial one will go in that spot next year. The palm tree started to struggle … it’s sitting under the plant light in the bedroom now with the dwarf lemon, dwarf orange and dwarf blueberry plants. I hope to have fruit in a couple of years!

Now, off to prep the computer for a hard drive and OS upgrade (I’m a geek…)

Loving Mustard and a link to a Budget Fashion Blog

whatiwore_223b

I am loving the color mustard lately but haven’t found anything in that color that fits me yet. Meanwhile, the budget fashionista or Budgetnista for short has this wonderful outfit posted. She’s really pulled off a look I wouldn’t have expected to work but I think it does. Seriously, mustard and teal/aqua, short pants and booties. Who’d a thunk?

Actually I’m not even sure this outfit would look good on anyone else but I like it on her. Go check out her blog for the full details on where she bought each piece (even if you’re only in love with part of it.) 🙂

Cyrus Knits?

Anyone ever hear of this company? Their website is offline but I bought this cute shirt at TJMaxx this afternoon for $7 and there was another one I liked but it was too small. The patterns are both out of the norm but they look good.

6pm.com …

My shoes were delivered today. We’ll start with the good news, I liked all but one pair and they arrived super fast.

The bad news? 6pm.com needs to use more tape. Simple, cheap, tape…
Why? Because I’m missing a shoe. One single shoe …
One piece of tape across the package each direction containing 9 pairs of shoes with no bubble wrap wasn’t sufficient. It appeared to be the only shoe box inside that hadn’t been plastic wrapped or have a plastic strip holding it closed which would explain why it didn’t show up with even fewer shoes inside.

Yes, they refunded me for that pair because they have no more in stock but somehow I’m feeling like that just isn’t making up for the fact that possibly one of the cutest shoes I’ve laid eyes on got lost in the mail and now I won’t get a pair.

I’ve checked e-bay, I’ve checked amazon, I’ve checked about 10 pages worth of sites looking for a replacement and it’s sold out everywhere in every size.

Anyone buy the Nine West Assilla shoe in an 8-8.5 that they want to get rid of? Pretty please? I’m going to wear one shoe around the house and pout now …
🙁

I know I know … I should be happy for the other 7 pairs of shoes I’m keeping and are cute….
