OOTD – turquoise, leopard and corduroy

OOTD - turquoise cable-knit sweater, leopard scarf and camel corduroy - ClothingCult.comOutfit of the day – turquoise, leopard and corduroy. Actually the more I think about it the color sweater color is dead on cyan instead of turquoise. Ok so most of this outfit came from Kohl’s. I’m finding Kohl’s to be a good source of decent quality basics at a good price. I gave a sneak peak of some of these items in this post but that didn’t include the sweater. That $10 Kohl’s cash coupon I got from my online order I used to go back and buy this sweater. Actually I ended up with two of these cable knit sweaters because I liked them so much; the “bold blue” and the “brown heather”.

Sweater: Sonoma Life + Style Cable-Knit sweater in “Bold Blue” | Pants: Sonoma Life + Style Modern Fit Straight Leg Corduroy pants in camel | Scarf:  Apt. 9 Leopard Scarf | Hat: Crushable straw fedora bought early last summer at Kohl’s | Earrings: bought last year at JC PennyShoes: Ugg Antora in black patent (similar Ugg Antora II in black patent)

Ok one quick note on the Uggs Antora ballet flats: I LOVE these but I have last year’s Antora not the Antora II and there is a difference. What I liked about last year’s style is that they are lined with shearling which helps keep my feet warm in winter. Not as warm as boots but better than most ballet flats. There’s no shearling on the footbed but there is shearling along the sides. If you see patent leather on the outside, there’s shearling under that. This year’s Antora II shoe however appears to only have a little tuft of shearling in the heel and that’s it.

The Payless Claire Scrunch Flat dexflex flat is my go-to black ballet in the fall and this Ugg Antora is my go-to black ballet flat in the winter because of that added warmth. I really hate wearing socks but my feet get cold easily. I actually own three pairs of Uggs and they are what go into heavy rotation in the winter and I should probably do a separate post about those. (Don’t worry, none of them are the typical suede Uggs that everyone knows and loves to hate!)

How I made white jeans / pants work for me for fall / winter:

White jeans or pants DO work for fall and winter!

What I’m wearing in all three outfits above: white palazzo jeans that I bought yesterday at the Talbots Outlet, long sleeve magenta surplice tshirt from Walmart, statement necklace from Maurices, gold and white earrings from JC Penny. (Ok this is also a cheap outfit) I actually wore the one on the far right today because it was mid 60’s outside here.

What I’m wearing that’s different (left to right): 1) magenta ballet flats from kohl’s and a camel / saddle color corduroy jacket from a consignment store haul 2) linen oatmeal wrap sweater from Talbots outlet 2&3) leopard Lauren Conrad ballet flats

Tips for wearing white jeans / pants in fall and winter: (none of these are a requirement to make this work, just some things that might be helpful)

  • try sticking to more fall-like colors in your top and shoes
  • stick with heavier weight fabric for the white pants
  • a light or metallic statement necklace seems to help tie things together

Mustard and Royal Blue Jeans

So I didn’t end up buying these from Kohl’s because the fabric was thinner and cheaper feeling. Just thin enough that I wasn’t comfortable with them.

But I did really like the colors so now I’m on the lookout for a pair of good mustard color and royal blue pants or preferably jeans.

Pant rant

I have the worst time finding pants that fit. I actually like low-rise pants but I also won’t tollerate pants that make me moon people at the same time. Most of my jeans have some spandex in them so they stretch a bit and with a belt this means that even though they are low-rise, they don’t go sliding down when I bend over.

Finding a pair of pants that fit my butt without being so high waisted they might touch my bra is quite a task. Even though the trend is low-rise jeans finally, they’re making these pants for people who have no butts and there is such a thing as TOO low (most low-low rise jeans are.)

I hear that waist bands are going to rise again this fall. Why do we have to go with a higher waist pant because we’re sick of seeing butt cracks, why can’t they just make the pants for REAL people? Train people on how to pick out pants too (stop buying them too small just because you want to say you wear a smaller size … it’s pushing flab you didn’t even know you had out of the top!)

Oh this pant rant WILL be continued!
