What I wore: Polka Dots & Mix N Match Neon nails

I’m playing catchup here on some things here. This outfit, let’s see, I wore it March 27th! Oops. It’s been a repeat outfit though because I really love the polka dot shirt I found at the Talbot’s outlet. Click for a larger view.

And then there are the nails. I actually did a full post on the nails before but you can tell here that they really can work well with neutrals.

Ring accent on a scarf
in place of a broach

Inspiration: http://www.wendyslookbook.com/2012/01/modern-vintage-leather-trims-silk-hermes/

So I don’t have a Herme’s Scarf, or the lovely YSL ring, BUT I have some larger cocktail rings I’ve never really worn that would look good in place of a broach on a scarf.

I DO have this vintage scarf I bought on ebay
and the ring was my grandmother’s.

I’m using a long rectangular scarf instead of a square. I threaded one side through the ring one way and the other side through the other way and tied a loose knot in the back so the ring was secure and wouldn’t fall off. I let the ends trail off the sides because the scarf did not start as a square like hers.

Flexible metal bracelet from Two Chicks and Company Lexington

I love so many things in this store that it’s hard to choose. I was in the store for awhile because a storm had blown in just as I was getting there and it seemed like a better idea to stick around to shop longer than planned than to try and make it to the car.

That gave me even more time to find items I liked and in the end I decided I had to limit myself to one item. I chose this bracelet because of the unique clasp and flexiness of the metal. Very versatile and cute and works well with my watch and some other items.

No brand name on the tag or the bracelet so I don’t know where you can find one though I think it was about $20.

September 2012 Birchbox unboxing

What’s inside:

  • Birchbox and Color Club® Custom Collection in “Put a Pin In It” : love it, I’m thinking the other shades are enticing as well.
  • twistband™ Lace up for Fall
  • The Brush Guard Variety Pack
  • Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo & Fekkai Essential Shea Conditioner : scary ingredients. Didn’t even bother running a custom report on this one after taking a closer look. Add in that it would cost $50 total for shampoo and conditioner and I’ll pass on buying a full size version any time soon.
  • Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+ : This BB Cream is a 5 according to a custom report with the Cosmetics Database. The big problems are parabens. For me two additional problems (for breakouts) are talc and dimethicone. I tried it on anyway… it just was all wrong for me.
  • BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir : again with the synthetic fragrances

Bonuses:

So favorite things from this box: nail polish, hair tie, and brush covers.

Review & swatch: Essie House Boat

I absolutely LOVE this color for summer. The one problem however is that it chips quickly.

I’ve tried several different base coats and several different top coats. 2 layers of nail polish, 3 layers. Every time is seems to last maybe 3 days tops before starting to look really bad.

Most of the other Essie polishes I’ve tried last about 5 days and even then they don’t deteriorate so quickly. So if anyone knows of another color that looks the same but last longer I would love to know!

Correction: It’s “Boat House” and I’ve found a nail polish to replace it with I think!
