Michael Antonio “Jaxine-MET” Silver heel Review

Well I did in fact say in my previous post that I have bought the silver Michael Antonio “Jaxine-MET” for $19.99 from 6pm.com.

I think I made a mistake when I purchased these. :/

Starting at the point where I wasn’t even standing up in them and they were already really uncomfortable. And yes, I did also stand up in them. Same problem.  They just really don’t fit my foot shape whatsoever. The strap at the toes pinch and just don’t seem to be a position that works well. It looks like maybe if you have longer toes this might not be the case. You can see in the pictures below just home much extra shoe there is beyond my toes. You don’t want toes hanging off the edge but this seems a little too much and my foot is following the other curves of the shoe.

I also don’t like that the gold (which can be seen on the website) is more of a rose gold / copper and wraps around the edge of the shoe. It distracts from the silver and makes them look a bit cheaper in person. If it had been on the footbed only of the Michael Antonio “Jaxine-MET” it would have been better. Then again, that doesn’t really matter as much as the fact that they hurt my feet. the gold really isn’t that bad … probably just me being picky now because the shoe isn’t going to work. :/

The heel of the shoe IS silver (from the photos on 6pm.com I thought there was a chance that the heel was white.) Just thought I should also mention that  since it was something I was wondering about when I made my purchase.

And a reminder, if you buy from 6pm.com the shipping to you might be free (and great if you’re sure about the shoe) but you have to pay the return shipping (not great if the shoe doesn’t work out.) Debating at this moment if I spend the money and ship them back or take them to the consignment store and hope someone buys them. Probably pay the shipping and send them back… blah.

Update: It was going to cost me $9 in shipping at it’s cheapest so I’m going to take them to the consignment store. :/

Letoile Peep Toe Sling in “Tan” from Payless -Review & Pics

The Nude Heel – a wardrobe staple:

The Letoile Peep Toe Sling from Payless are a classic patent leather peeptoe heel. They are a great basic heel to add to your collection. And as far as heels go they’re relatively comfortable.  They have enough structure that they aren’t wobbly but they it’s nice that they aren’t platform stripper heels so appropriate for more occasions. The color shown is called “tan” and is a very neutral nude shade.

Nude shoes elongate and flatter almost any woman.

Now don’t shoot me … but the dress and shoe combo shown below is what I expect to wear this summer as a bridesmaid to a wedding. Yes the dress is black. Yes this wedding is near New York. Yes one of the other bridesmaids said she was wearing black. YES! I’m bringing another dress with me just in case. In the “South” (yes, Kentucky sometimes counts) we don’t wear black to weddings. It’s a “black is for funerals” sort of thing so I will NOT risk being the only bridesmaid wearing black. There WILL be a backup dress in case they change their minds.

This is where I also have to admit that since I bought them for an event I have only worn them around the house. They won’t get their first full (or half) day wearing until June. The silver pumps in the last post are actually being bought for the same event. Both shoes I expect to get a lot of use out of afterwards though. At least as far as heels go since I really spend most of my time wearing flats. 🙂

Originally $29.99 they’re on sale for $24.99. If you have one of the 20% Payless coupons (either in an email or from one of their mailers) that brings them to about $20 which is what I picked these up for.

High & Low Roundup – Silver Sandals with 4″ heels

So we’re going to play a little game called “High & Low Roundup.” This round will be Silver Sandals with 4″ heels. From the photo below can you tell which pair is the $298 pair? And which pair is the look-alike for $19.99 pair? (I photoshopped the logo off the footbeds.) Scroll down for the answer.

We have the:
Michael Antonio “Jaxine-MET” $19.99 (top shoe with the gold footbed)
&
Elizabeth and James “Toni Slim Sandals” $298.00 (bottom shoe)

I actually ordered the cheaper pair from 6pm.com tonight and will review them when they get in. There are subtle differences in the styles and I actually like a couple of little details on the cheaper pair. The stitching on the more expensive pair probably means they’ll last a little longer though.

Business Outfit – dusty rose & gray

I had a board meeting yesterday so I was aiming for business conservative without being completely boring. The shirt is a very light dusty rose which comes across more like a cream in the photos.

Outfit details below. Click any image to enlarge.

Dusty rose silk Talbots top, Chico's gray slack, business outfit

I’m wearing:

  • Simply Vera by Vera Wang black heels seen in my previous blog post here. I got a lot of comments on these. Lot’s of questions about whether or not I thought I was going to fall in them too because they’re so tall. 🙂 I wouldn’t want to wear them daily but they’re fine for a day with a little walking and a fair amount of sitting in between.
  • Talbot’s outlet dusty rose silk top seen in this previous post. I love how simple the draped strips of fabric at the neckline make the blouse just that little bit interesting.
  • Chico’s gray dress slacks. These are a great staple item for me. So much so that I bought a second pair when they were on sale. Long enough to wear with heels and short enough that somehow I can still wear flats without them puddling at my feet. I believe they are the “Smooth Stretch Flare Trouser Pant, Style: 570034128” which they don’t seem to have gray in at the moment.

Kohl’s Shoes: Candie’s Caposh in taupe & Simply Vera Wang platform heels in black

I’m a little behind on sharing my recent clothes purchases and outfits. Since I’ve got some more pictures with these shoes I’ll go ahead and start with them.

So at some point in a random shopping trip I had tried on the Vera Wang Platform heels in black  (labeled “Dali” on the box) at Kohl’s and hadn’t bought them. I also loved the blue and neon yellow pair but couldn’t rationalize them as a purchase. Both stuck in my mind so I decided to go back for at least the black pair. Aren’t they pretty!

Ok they’re basic black but still, a step up from the last pair of black heels I bought. Wow again – it’s been 3 years since I bought a pair of black heels?

Then I spotted Candie’s Caposh in faux suede taupe with a chunky heel. They were only $19 (marked down from $59.99) with a “limited quantity” sticker.

They look so lonely right?
They say “take me with you Hilary…” Can’t you hear them?

Candie's Caposh in Taupe faux suede

Anyway, fabulous chunky heel, lovely soft color. And though I’m not a huge fan of suede or faux suede I don’t think I would have liked these in regular leather.

I think these will go well with a lot of outfits and the chunky heel and platform make them a bit easier to wear.

So here’s the little bit of drama related to these shoes:
I got to the cash register at Kohl’s to check out with my shoes and they do the usual check to make sure there’s nothing else in the box and that the shoes are a matching pair and match what the box says they are. The shoes were an 8.5 for the left and an 8 for the right! I hadn’t even noticed, I’m guessing because my left foot is a hint larger than my right anyway. The cashier says “I’ll have to check and see if we can find the other one or else we can’t sell you these.” Who, what!! NOOOOOO!!!!! Ok go check. Stay calm.

Someone comes back with another set that are mismatched. But they match them up so it looks like we have two left in 8.5 and two right in 8’s. I say “they fit as they were and I’m willing to buy them mismatched anyway.” They say “we can’t sell them to you, you could check another store though.” To which I respond “but they’re ‘Limited Quantity’ and they fit, I don’t care that they’re mismatched!” and in my head I’m thinking that I didn’t see these shoes at the other Kohl’s which is a good 45 miles away from the one I’m at anyway. So one woman goes off to check some manual or maybe call someone and as I’m standing trying the shoes on at the register again just to prove that they fit I realize that they don’t have two left 8.5 and two right 8’s – they got confused when trying to match them and actually have a set of 8.5 and a set of 8’s!

So disaster averted!

But I still have to wonder why they wouldn’t have sold me a mismatch pair if their match wasn’t anywhere in the store. I’m sure it’s just some policy taken one step too far, but still perplexing.

Have you ever had a cashier refuse to sell you merchandise because of some store policy taken too far?
