Eyelet Dress collection – cute spring and summer dresses 2013

Many of the eyelet dress outfits that caught my eye recently have been white eyelet dresses paired with jean jackets. Others were bright colors or navy. I’ve managed to round up quite a few for you &  included both inspiration as well as links to a lot of dresses available for the Spring & Summer 2013 season. 🙂

The evasive eyelet dress but too cute not to mention:

Shireen-Eyelet-Dress-from-Calypso-Celle

Shireen Eyelet Dress from Calypso Celle: This dress just kept popping up on Pinterest. Repeatedly. In different colors. And it’s really cute. Too bad the seller, http://calypso-celle.com,  doesn’t seem to exist anymore. Link included just in case they somehow come back online (though I don’t think I would trust an ecommerce site that’s been done as long as this one has….)

But maybe you could find it in a boutique … it looks like they sell to small stores based on this photo. Really this is my favorite of the dresses which makes it really frustrating.

Anyway – hopefully this gives you some outfit ideas and also helps you find some of the available options for eyelet dresses this Summer 2013!

Coral Jeans, Yellow Pants & some Kohl’s shopping

So back in 2011 I noted that denim / chambray shirts were catching my attention. Mostly paired with bright colors like coral and yellow OR with white pants / jeans. The coral jeans and yellow jeans have been something that have stuck in my mind as something I have wanted to buy for awhile now.

SO, today there was some shopping at Kohl’s… let’s start with the pants since they ARE what I’ve been talking about.

Dana Buchman Sateen Capris – Yellow Pants

Dana Buchman Sateen Capris & ELLE Lace Peplum Top Dana Buchman Sateen Capris & Dana Buchman Solid Pleated Top

Dana Buchman Sateen Capris & my own top

I have no idea how they got “sateen” or “capris” out of this. Ok, so maybe my lower half sometimes works better with petite sizes but these look more like they would qualify as “ankle jeans” than “capris” even if my legs were longer. The fabric is more like jeans material but the stitching is different and they don’t look like jeans. They’re very soft and not shiny. I purchased them for $26.40 today. I’ll get to something related to the price at the end of this post.

Tops shown from left to right areELLE™ Lace Peplum TopDana Buchman Solid Pleated Top, and my own top from TJ Maxx. I did not buy the shirts though I definitely want one peplum top before this trend is over.

I could not for the life of me get this color to photograph well in the dressing room. I swear it’s more coral than pink … but it’s on the pinkier side of coral. These are jeans and you can tell in the photo that they are a more normal length (hence about an inch too long on me.) I’m debating whether I should hem them or just leave them as is because with shoes they won’t drag the ground. Otherwise the fit is excellent for me.

For $18, these are a steal. I couldn’t find the display with these so I lucked out that I spotted a pair wadded up and stuffed in with the Levi’s in my perfect size but you can still find them online, click the below image. They also have a couple of other colors but I think this is the best of the bunch:

Dresses: AB Studio Pleated Fit & Flare Dress

So I’m looking for a turquoise dress to wear as a bridesmaid in a wedding this summer. The AB Studio Pleated Fit & Flare dress was something I had picked out online to try on and found at the local store. You can really see in these two photos what happens to the color in the dressing room lighting and why I could not get the correct color on the jeans above.

AB Studio Pleated Fit & Flare Dress in Teal AB Studio Pleated Fit & Flare Dress in Teal

I liked the dress but it just didn’t seem like something I should wear as a bridesmaid. It just seemed a little young and not quite dressy enough. Yes, we are on our own for bridesmaids dresses. The only bridesmaid who has said what she’s wearing has said black. I have my black dress but I feel like I need to take a more colorful dress. Yes, you’re seeing a lot of turquoise but in this case it’s one of the wedding colors. So the final verdict was a pass on this dress. Just wasn’t quite right for the occasion.

Online it says this dress is $42 but in my local store, the scanner brought it up as $36. click on the below image for the link to Kohl’s:

And the next dress: Chaps Geometric Pintuck Dress

This dress I tried on because I’ve been eying it for months now. I don’t think it’s right for a bridesmaids dress. Just too busy a pattern for the photographs. I do however love the fit and colors. Super comfy, hides certain flaws while accentuating curves in a flattering way.

Chaps Geometric Pintuck Dress

I kinda want to buy it to wear to Keeneland. Keeneland is a race track for horse races. You have to have gone to get it completely. You don’t have to dress up but the majority do… people skip work, get dressed up and go to drink and bet on horses. And people watch – that’s half the fun. It’s not quite as dressy as Derby but some people do go ahead and take it to that level. April is spring meet time at Keeneland.

I just don’t wear dresses enough to warrant the $71.25 of this dress though – not right now at least. Click on the below photo to go to the dress on Kohls.com

About the prices:

I almost didn’t buy any of this, even the pants. The teal dress I knew was on sale but those little electronic displays over the yellow pants didn’t have any discounts. I thought the yellow pants were going to be $48 instead of $26.40. BUT you know those little price check kiosks? YES, you should USE THEM! Look for the price check kiosks at Kohl’s – they are your FRIEND.

What I wore: breezy spring Turquoise & Jeans

I’m very much a jeans girl. The darker, the better (but not black, black shows cat hair too much.) Deep deep navy, no distressing. HOWEVER when I’ve been wearing the same jeans for awhile they do in fact become somewhat faded which is the case with what I had on today. These are actually the lightest blue blue jeans that I own.

Closeup of the shirt and jeans

What I wore in these photos (this is really all over the place):

  • Top: Turquoise Shirt / Blouse / Tank from TJmaxx picked up last fall
  • Jeans: Walmart (ugh – yes, Walmart) from a few years ago
  • Shoes: Sandals / Flip Flops in red and tan with silver and crystal embellishment from a boutique in Bowling Green KY
  • Shrug / short sleeved jacket: Target from a couple of years ago
  • Necklace: long silver necklace from Chicos (really long ago)
  • Earrings: basic silver round hoops with a flattened edge from Talbots (also long ago … but I’m not sure how long because I have two pairs of the exact same earring bought at different times.)
  • Toenail polish: Zoya “Lo” … I need to repaint my fingernails.

I’ve been meaning to share more outfits of the day like this but just haven’t gotten around to it. I do however wear jeans a lot and I do re-wear a lot of the same outfits which means that sometimes what I wore just is not that interesting … or I think it wouldn’t be. We’ll see if I can make this more of a habit. Though don’t worry, I will probably not be posting every single day. You can see a pattern in the colors I tend to like photographing though. Lots of turquoise and teals and aqua… I swear I have other color shirts in my closet!

AND I’m sorry, these last couple of days I’ve been feeling rather prolific. I promise I will not keep this double posting nonsense up (I’m going to post something about coral and yellow jeans in a bit.) 🙂

RSS subscribers – please switch

rss copy As many of you may already know, Google has decided that they are going to retire Google Reader on July 1, 2013. I am VERY upset about this. It’s been one of my core services since 2007. Something I use daily like email. It has helped me keep up with over 500 websites in a manner that is much simpler than visiting each and every one of them to try and figure out what’s new and what’s not. That said, I suspect that Feedburner will be on the chopping block sooner rather than later.

For those of you who are subscribed via rss (either using Google Reader or another service.) Could you please update your subscription to:

http://clothingcult.com/feed/rss/

If you are one of the 4 subscribers who appear to getting this via email, I’m sorry but I don’t have a replacement for that option at this time. Let me know if you desperately want this and I will see if I can make it happen asap.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then you can ignore this post! 🙂
If you are curious why I was using feedburner in the first place:

Years and years ago the best way to handle rss was via feedburner because formatting was tricky and not completely standardized. Feedburner did a good job of correcting minor mistakes and adding in correct code. Years later, google bought feedburner and all was still good and they even added in some features. However since they came out with Google+, Google seems to have gotten it into their heads that rss is dead even though it isn’t (it’s just not as fast growing as it once was.) In September Google removed adsense integration from feedburner and people started to worry that Google is secretly planning on killing feedburner. WordPress has come a long way since then and I have to say, although I like some of the feedburner features, I don’t want to be left high and dry. SO I’m going ahead and switching things back to the WordPress rss feed.

Since I did the initial switcheroo back in 2002 or so, I did not use htaccess to simply redirect to the feedburner link. This means you will need to make this update manually in your rss reader to continue to be subscribed.

If you are looking for another RSS Reader to replace Google Reader:

I’m most likely going to switch to Feedly. If you only read fashion blogs or other picture dense topics, it’s not my cup of tea, but I know many people who love BlogLovin and they also have instructions on moving your feeds: http://blog.bloglovin.com/2013/03/moving-from-google-reader-to-bloglovin/

There are also dozens of articles at this point listing tons of options and alternatives for people to try out, some better than others. None a precise match to Google Reader (though supposedly Digg is working on one.)

I want to publicly say:

Google, you lost some of my trust with this decision to retire a product thousands upon thousands of people were using as a core service. You even said yourself that Google Reader has a loyally following. And it’s a following of many, not just a few. So many that Reader out-trended the Pope on both G+ and Twitter the day it was announced. So many users that it took down many of the competition’s websites when people started frantically looking at their alternatives. I’ve even seen some Google employees mention that they are upset with this decision.

I want to thank the Google Reader team that brought us this wonderful product – a product so good that year later people are still using it and angry that it’s being taken away from them. I know that most of the orignal team no longer works for Google. I also want to thank any Google Reader project manager who has fought to keep Google Reader around because apparently Google has wanted to pull that team off to work on other projects for YEARS.

If you still think we have a shot at keeping Google Reader alive, please go sign the petition here:
https://www.change.org/petitions/google-keep-google-reader-running

At the time of this post it has over 100,000 signers.

Google Reader Petition

With no peep from Google since the web exploded with the news of Google Reader’s demise, my hopes are not high but I my e-signature is there just in case it does make a difference… Google, your informal corporate moto of “Don’t be evil” isn’t ringing true for me at this moment in time.

And with that, we’ll go back to our regularly scheduled program. Back to fashion, clothes, makeup and skincare.

Don’t worry, I will NOT be turning this into a tech blog!!!  This blog has the widest audience and largest subscriber base of all the blogs I run so I thought it was appropriate to post it here. (And sorry for all of this negativity associated with this!)
