What I wore: Polka Dots & Mix N Match Neon nails

I’m playing catchup here on some things here. This outfit, let’s see, I wore it March 27th! Oops. It’s been a repeat outfit though because I really love the polka dot shirt I found at the Talbot’s outlet. Click for a larger view.

And then there are the nails. I actually did a full post on the nails before but you can tell here that they really can work well with neutrals.

Review & swatch: Essie House Boat

I absolutely LOVE this color for summer. The one problem however is that it chips quickly.

I’ve tried several different base coats and several different top coats. 2 layers of nail polish, 3 layers. Every time is seems to last maybe 3 days tops before starting to look really bad.

Most of the other Essie polishes I’ve tried last about 5 days and even then they don’t deteriorate so quickly. So if anyone knows of another color that looks the same but last longer I would love to know!

Correction: It’s “Boat House” and I’ve found a nail polish to replace it with I think!

Color Club Blue-ming nail polish

I like it but I’m not as crazy about it as I thought I was going to be. The color DOES grab people’s attention and get good comments. Since I took it off my finger nails and left it on my toe nails, I’ve liked it a bit more so maybe just on all nails it’s a bit too much.

It also might have been that I kept needing to go to meetings and it didn’t seem appropriate and now that I’m on the beach it makes more sense.

Second photo I have the antique gold crackle on my thumb over this.

Revlon Nail Art Neon

Someone has finally figured out that you need a good coat of white under neon to really make it pop. Enter Revlon’s Nail Art in Neon.

I bought the “Pink Glow.”  I love this color!

However… the white sucks
AND it chips fast even when you use another white under it.

I did my toenails with my normal Sinful Colors base coat, a coat of the Revlon white (it was streaky) and then two coats of the pink. 3 days and it was already chipping.

On my hands I did the same thing but replaced the Revlon white with a Sinful colors white that was less streaky. It started chipping at day 3 as well. Usually I can get at least 5 days out of nail polish anymore before huge chunks fall off.

I also used the Sinful Colors Nail Art in white to create a chevron pattern on one thumb. The tiny brush needed a little trim because it had a stray hair hanging out but other than that, I like it.

So maybe it needed top coat or maybe it’s time for a new base coat.
It’s a fun color however and I’ll give it another try.

The applicator shape is actually kinda nice. More like holding a lipgloss tube than a nail polish bottle. Not going to stand on the table which may affect your opinion of it though.

Zoya “Lotus” with Essie “A Cut Above” and Sally Hansen Crackle polish in “Antique Gold”

I DO think that Zoya’s “Lotus” looks better with a top coat. Particularly Essie’s “A Cut Above” pink glittery top coat would be my choice.

It draws attention to some of the pink undertones that Lotus has but are hard to see. I still feel like this isn’t a very spring color for some reason. Maybe because I’m personally interested in pastels, golds and neons for spring. :/ 🙂
