Makeup Brush Find

Ok – outside of the elf makeup brushes, my new favorite place to shop for makeup brushes is the art store (near the acrylic paints.) I have yet to have liked any of the

For $7 I got two different little brushes to play with the MAC fluid liners with. Both great quality too. You’re not as likely to find a good blush brush there but for eyebrushes it gives you some high quality options for about the same price you would pay for most crappy drugstore brushes.

Maybelline … so disappointing…

There were amazing discounts on the makeup at the grocery today – about half price or more. I hadn’t planned on buying anything but I found what I thought was going to be THE color of lipstick I was looking for and a waterproof eyeliner … together under $5 total. Regular price $14 or so.

Maybelline Wet Shine Fushion lipstick in Honey Glazed I thought MIGHT look like MAC twig. When I got home and tried it on it was way too pale. Good consistency and application – totally wrong color out of the tube. Held up next to my face in the tube it was perfect… blah. Just wish this one had been the color I was hoping for on.

Maybelline Ultra Liner – Black waterproof. Ha! Waterproof! Looks awful on, flakes if the skin is stretched (pull the corner of an eye just a little once it was dry) … MIGHT be waterproof in the rain but smudged when wet with my hand (doubt it would hold up to swimming which is what I think of when I see waterproof.) Simply AWFUL!

I should have bought a backup of the CoverGirl aquasmooth I always wear … that would have been a better use of my $5 (and usually it’s more expensive … I may yet go back and get it.)

more Jesse’s Girl Makeup (photos)

I found out a little bit more about the Jesse’s Girl brand AND, per the request of a reader, went and took photos of the Jesses Girl cosmetics at Rite-aid.

“CRL Marketing, Inc. is relocating from Suffern, New York to the Premier Quilting Building on Industry Drive in Oxford, North Carolina. CRL Marketing was founded in 1999 by Jesse and Cathy Lawrence. The company markets color cosmetics and accessories under both the Jesse’s Girl and Yakity Yak brands as well as specializing in Private Label for mass merchandisers such as Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens. The new location in Oxford will act as a centralized distribution center handling the entire United States and Canada.” from http://www.granvillecounty.com/news.htm

::removed information… moved and address and phone number did not belong to the business anymore::

They don’t have a listing with the Better Business Bureau but they do have a Dunn & Bradstreet listing (but I’m not going to spend the money to find out more about them that way.)

BUT there’s not much more about the company online (though someone asked if they do animal testing … it would be great if someone could call and ask – if anyone does, post a comment here please. I may eventually end up doing it it no one else does.)

Interesting find at Rite-Aide – Jesse’s Girl

Jesse’s Girl eye dust. (In orange?)

I must be attracted to sparkly things sometimes because this product line really stood out to me. The first time I passed it up as completely impractical but it stuck in my mind and I decided to go back later in the week to try something. It was actually a kelly green version of the eye dust that caught my eye first but I decided to go with the possibly more practical color first, a goldish pumpkin sort of color (these products do not seem to have color names so I’m making it up by what it looks like.) It looks like it’s probably meant for a teen market and includes not only the eye dust but also an eyeshadow line (very bright colors), lipglosses and a few other odds and ends. I’ve only tried this orange eye dust at the current time and it was under $4 if I remember correctly.

It’s not quite a glitter but the packaging was poor so it kept going everywhere until I put it in another container. It matched my gold fleck laminant sink counter from another era surprisingly well but that’s besides the point.

What was really surprising was how good it actually looked on. Now granted it’s WAY too sparkly for daytime wear, if I were the type of person to go out and party at night a lot or visit bars, this would be an awesome find. I decided to keep a small portion since I didn’t want to part with all of it but the remaining is up for swap on makeupalley.com because I can’t really see ME wearing this often.

It was hard to take a picture of but I did my best – tell me what you think:

Cover Girl eyeshadow in Aqua Paradise

Cover Girl Eyeshadow in Aqua paradise teal aqua blue peacock

For those of you looking for a good vibrant teal color eyeshadow that’s affordable. I replaced the burgundy color (“Aubergine queen”) shown in the picture here with the Aqua Paradise. Closer to the eye-line I applied it with a wet brush and blended so that it was a bit thicker than a quick swipe of dry powder.

Quick note – I just got in the MAC eyeshadow in shimmermoss … can’t tell the difference between the covergirl and it.

MAC vs Cover Girl

The MAC is on the right and the Cover Girl is on the left.
