Meh – shipping and handling charges

Maybe Zappos and Amazon have me spoiled because when I try something because its not available in a local store and the product isn’t as advertised, why should I pay for shipping? Got my refund from Victoria’s Secret and it’s short $10 (~$9 shipping and handling plus the tax on the S&H.) So I spent $10 to try on some leggings? Meh, I know it’s probably in the S&H and return info but I expecting no likelihood of having to return them.

While I’m thinking about it, why is there not an in store pick up option for VS anyway? They have stores all over the place.

Quick review:
Victoria’s Secret Daily Crop Legging

I was trying to buy a replacement for the Victoria’s Secret leggings / yoga pants I have loved and worn since 2010. I’ve been wearing regularly to sleep in and sometimes wear to yoga class. They were a good quality materials but they are now literally coming apart at the seams now with regular wear so I needed to buy replacements.

What I had no longer existed by name and number so I compared and shopped and shopped and compared and finally settled on two pairs of ZF-289992 or #289-981 the VS “Daily Crop Legging” in black. What I had didn’t have the foldover top which these matched.

They also showed the modal wearing a long shirt and say:  “Live in leggings? So do we. That’s because this sleek, chic knit is so much more than a legging. It’s a want-it-now, need-it-in-every-color, go-everywhere essential. Slip it on under almost any layer: it’s as soft and comfy as your favorite tee.”

So where’s my review? It’s fairly short. They’re see through!!!! My favorite tshirts are not so thin they’re see through like this. And I don’t mean I bought a size too small and they stretched see-through. I also don’t mean VPL because I’m wearing granny panties see-through either.

When I say they’re see-though I mean you can see the COLOR of my underwear through black! (Which is also why I’m not showing you pictures!!!)

I know that what I loved I had bought two years ago but these looked like the same style and they were a similar price point and most of Victoria’s Secret’s products haven’t changed price much so I really thought I would be getting something comparable.

So sure, if you want tights with no feet to go under a dress or tunic, these are soft and nice. If you were looking for something less see-through then don’t buy these.

So taking these back and I’m back to the drawing board… probably not from VS this time.  :/

PS – I bought a pair of clearance undies too … when did they start putting an obnoxiously long tag in the FRONT? Or was that why they were clearance?

DIY drapey wrap vest : semi-fail

Recently I bought a wrap sweater from Victoria’s Secret. I love the options and ways it can be worn but the fabric has been horrendous. I got the Cotton & Cashmere Shadow Stripe Wrap which they no longer carry. Basically a little of:

I have gotten a few good wears out of the sweater but it pills, heavily. But it’s black so it’s less noticeable. I would have returned it if I had spent the original $60 price. However it was discounted and then I had a $10 off coupon so I only spent about $16 for the sweater and a scarf including shipping. Not worth the wasted time (and an awesome deal really.)

What I’ve learned however is that that sweater is basically a giant rectangle plus sleeves. Which got me thinking, why not make my own quick drape-y sweater vest? I had some men’s undershirts that I thought would be perfect fabric (there’s not much knit fabric to choose from locally for some reason) and it was at least a good test run.

Why I think it failed:

  1. color block? Eee. I think it would look better as a single color
  2. it’s a vest so you’re going to see the color of your sleeves too (another reason to do this single color)
  3. a little too short in the “wings” – maybe another 1/2 yard to a yard
  4. a little too long top to bottom, the VS version was shorter which looks better

I should have simply measured the VS wrap to start with (which is by the way about 31″x87″.)

I will be trying this again soon. The men’s undershirts were I think about $10-$12 for a 4pack (Hanes Men’s Sleeveless 4 Pack Rib Knit or Fruit of the Loom Men’s 4-Pack A-Shirts. 2XL gets you a fair amount of fabric to play with.) If I can find some knit fabric locally it would be faster and no-sew so I’ll be checking that out.

Or I might buy some from fabric.com. I haven’t bought fabric off the internet yet and missing that step of touching it before buying will be odd. Maybe one of these though.
