What I wore today – sorta

This is actually not today but something I wore sometime last week and couldn’t get to upload with my phone. The shirt is a new-to-me chico’s shirt I picked up thrifting.

And then a scary photo of my closet. It’s not normally organized by color but I had some colors grouped by accident and wondered if I had an excess of any particular color. Turned out, though it’s hard to tell in the picture, I have a lot of white short sleeve shirts at the back there (that I don’t wear much.)

Shopping today – Dillard’s Jan 29 2011

I thought I would share some photos I took during my short trip to Dillard’s today. I thought I was going to look at coats (which I did) but nothing caught my eye so I moved on.

Loved this Ralph Lauren plaid (isn’t it plaid?) short sleeve turtleneck.

Problems: Turtlenecks look a little odd on me sometimes (not the right neckline) unless they are worn under a sweater. Clearly worn under the sweater jacket wasn’t cutting it. That and even on sale it was about $50. Amazing fabric though so if the neckline had been right I would have bought it.

Moving on.

Antonio Melani – never heard of them but some amazing pieces. I should have taken a picture of their purses. Loved those and would have looked closer at them if the hardware were silver instead of gold. Why is it all the nice purses seem to have gold hardware?

Love this dress! The colors, the detail around the neck! Too bad I don’t wear dresses much if at all. I didn’t even bother looking at the price tag. Next!

Excuse the bad photo, love the cut and it would be perfect on me. Then I looked at the price tag. Gulp. Ok when was the last time I really went shopping? Or maybe it was the fact that I had been looking at coats that were this price. ~$80 Oh yes here we go on the website – better than my photo:

Next!

Yup more sticker shock. $119. I would invest in some pieces like this though. I have a short sleeve green blouse that has a similar fit to the brown shirt that I wear to a lot of first client meetings. Red or brown would be versatile in my wardrobe.

Next!

Loved the mix of fabrics. Did not catch it’s name or number but I knew it would not work with ruffles near my bust. Not sure why I photographed it.

Next!

Liked the fit. Liked the price but I wasn’t elated about the color on me. Maybe it was the dressing room lights but I put this one in my maybe pile. Brand was I.N. and it was about $14 on sale. Yes, I went to the juniors department, so shoot me.

Bingo! Perfecto. A bit dressy, good colors, a good shape. Paper Doll was the brand. Yes, it’s from the juniors department, yes it was cheap polyester (I promise I don’t wear much cheap poly) and it was only $12.

Winner. Bought.

Time for dinner. Though that mirror was a little cruel to me and told me that I had some back flab when I twisted just so. Yes, dinner time anyway. Meany mirrors!

What I Wore Today – Friday Oct 8

Raspberry Polo ~$5 end of season kmart
Jeans ~$10 walmart on sale (I had to hem them)
Mia Brown ballet flats ~$80 zappos.com (a few years ago)

I think one of the reasons I don’t post more photos of what I wear is because I tend to get in the habit of wearing similar things for several weeks before switching to something only slightly different. And to be honest, what I wear most of the time is fairly simple and practical.

I’ll post 2 sweaters I thrifted today in a couple of days. I think one of the plugins I added is keeping me from posting from my phone. And I probably need to track down my camera instead of using my phone to take photos anyway. 🙂

Photo of the day – Dec 10 2009

Some basic business attire from yesterday. The red flats I recently bought, a pair of dark dark grey pants with a tiny light green pinstripe that are at least 3 years old, and a white acrylic sweater I don’t remember buying but it feels so much like cashmere I checked the tag before I tossed it in the wash. Earrings, gift from mom from Greece trip, and the necklace is a couple dollars worth of flea market finds someone brought to a beading party (thanks Betsy!)

A bit of non-clothing info: I am LOVING the beadboard WALLPAPER I put up in the dining room that you can see here. $25 a roll and I almost did it in one roll (would have been able to if I hadn’t messed up a few pieces.) So $50 and the room looks SO much better. Inspiration from Southern Hospitality’s blog here:
http://southernhospitalityblog.com/beadboard-wallpaper-party/

Check it out and the links to the beadboard wallpaper projects other people did as well.

Next house project is removing the textured ceiling and giving everything in there a good coat of paint. I plan on doing a light ale yellow above the chair rail.

The tree in the photo was the display tree that was over half off and came with the lights on it. I love the urn base.

I have a small live arbor vite(sp)  in the living room where the palm tree was this summer that is decorated and will get planted after the holiday season. This artificial one will go in that spot next year. The palm tree started to struggle … it’s sitting under the plant light in the bedroom now with the dwarf lemon, dwarf orange and dwarf blueberry plants. I hope to have fruit in a couple of years!

Now, off to prep the computer for a hard drive and OS upgrade (I’m a geek…)

What I wore today … well … umm a few days ago…

Well it’s better than a photo from a few months ago this time. I’m so happy with my new palm tree and I brought in one of my granny’s chairs from the garage not expecting it to look so good. I’m loving the whole new arrangement though.

POTD April 1 2009

Earrings: Liz Claiborne silver oval hoops – Christmas gift
(probably about $18)

Necklace: Kmart clearance $1.50

Cardigan: Ann Taylor – gift
(Mom bought for me while we were in Vegas at the Outlet mall so $10? I think my teal one was the $30 Cardigan)

Dress: No idea, swapped some makeup for it so mostly free.

Scarf: vintage (either my mom’s or granny’s, not sure)

Flip Flops: Kohl’s clearance $2 or under last summer
(they’re bronze and I probably should have worn dressier shoes)

I really like this dress and there are a few things you can’t tell about it in this photo:

  • it’s a nice chocolate brown
  • it has a brown crocheted section across the chest area which is a nice bit of detail without calling too much attention to that area
  • it’s a simple cotton dress and feels like wearing a big comfy t-shirt
  • it has an elastic empire waist
  • it’s a sort of cross between a sleeveless and capped sleeve … I don’t really know how to describe it.

In an effort to get the slippery scarf to stay in one place I actually tied it around the button cardigan which I don’t know that I would do again. It worked really well in regard to keeping the scarf in place and centered but I felt like it has the potential to wear out the cardigan faster or lose the button or misshape the button hole.

Anyone have any scarf belt tricks? I’m thinking about buying some more fun fabrics and making more if I can get that figured out a bit better.

And I’m starting to wonder if I know the price of most of my clothes off of the top of my head like some odd sort of visual memory recall… scary…

FYI – I live in what used to be my grandmother’s house hence the sort of oddness about chairs from the garage and not knowing who the scarf belonged to. I did actually find it here. It took me three months I think to get to the point that I could move in and I’ve been slowly cleaning everything out ever since (my mom is a packrat and stopped helping after I moved in because she doesn’t want to part with any of it.)

What I Wore Today … a few months ago…

Sorry I haven’t been around. I’ll explain at another time. I may not be around much for awhile longer but I’m not abandoning this blog and I wanted to go ahead and get this image online.

I wanted to start posting more outfits that I’ve worn so here’s the first. It’s pretty simple but I like it and the pieces are versatile (and cheap):

Dec 2008 WIWT

Wearing:

Corduroy Jacket – “So…” brand found at Goodwill $5
Grey short-sleeved turtleneck – “Love Lola” brand Dillard’s $11
Jeans – AE hipster $39
Black square toe ballet flats – “Mossimo” Target $20
I may not always know the costs on the outfits but on this one I do.

Let me know what you think. 🙂
