Ipsy Glambag March 2015

March 2015 – FLORAL FANTASY

Ipsy Glambag March 2015 - reviews and EWG skin deep cosmetics database scores via ClothingCult.com

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 4Mary Kay At Play® Eye Crayon – first ingredient is dimethicone so this product is out for me personally. Reminder, cones cause my skin to break out for some reason. No parabens, no fragrance but it does contain aluminum powder. It ranks a 4 with the EWG skin deep cosmetics database. Not great but not bad.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 5Coolway Glow Oil Treatment – second ingredient is dimethicone, also out for me. Along with dimethicone it also includes fragrance and ranks a 5 with the EWG skin deep cosmetics database. There are a lot of better oil and hair treatment options out there. Also one of the things about cones (for those that aren’t allergic) they may make your hair look good the first few uses but they can be not so great for your hair over time.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 7NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick – no cones, no parabens, but it does have fragrance/parfum. It also doesn’t have mineral oil or parafin which, although not toxic, are ingredients that don’t feel right on my skin. So I could technically use it but it’s also a VERY purple shade. Going back to the EWGEWG Environmental Working Group - an organization focused on research to make informed choices and live a healthy life in a healthy environment. skin deep score on this one and it’s just not healthy. It’s a 7 due to many of the other ingredients used. So nope, not using this one.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 9LANEIGE BB Cushion – more cones so again this one is out for me. No parabens but it does include fragrance again. When I started to run it through the cosmetics database custom score builder I ended up with it having problems finding the following:

  • CROSSPOLYMER
  • ETHYLHEXYL
  • POLYRICINOLEATE
  • ACRYLATES/STEARYL
  • ACRYLATE/DIMETHICONE
  • DIMETHICONE/VINYLDIMETHICONE
  • CROSSPOLYMER

So the score does not reflect these ingredients. And yet still it’s a horribly unhealthy 9. Nope, nope I would not use this product.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 2skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – no cones, no parabens, no fragrances/parfumes added. So far so good here. And an EWG skin deep report shows this as a healthy 2 and a closer look at the ingredients and everything looks pretty good. Healthy and gentle is something you want with the more delicate skin around the eyes. Definitely going to give these a try.

Ipsy glambag February 2015 including EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics database scores

Ipsy glambag February 2015 including EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics database scores via ClothingCult.com

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 3CARGO Cosmetics Mini Lip Gloss in Anguilla – no cones, no fragrance added, no parabens. I have high hopes for this one and it’s not too bad at a 3 with the EWG skin deep cosmetics database. I’m looking forward to trying this one and it’s a really nice basic shade as well that looks like it would work well with a lot of skin tones – very neutral but maybe a little bit light depending on how opaque it ends up being.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 7Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray – dimethicone rules this one out for me. It also has fragrance though and diazolidinyl urea (formaldehyde releaser) though and this ranks a 7 with the EWGEWG Environmental Working Group - an organization focused on research to make informed choices and live a healthy life in a healthy environment. skin deep cosmetic database so I wouldn’t want to use this anyway.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 5Hey Honey Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask – the only negative ingredient I see on the list here is fragrance. Since all the other ingredients are all natural I decided to go see if I could find anything on the company site that might indicate natural or essential oils used as fragrance instead of synthetic (ingredient labels have certain requirements and lump all “fragrance” under the same label.) While they do have a very thorough rundown of the ingredients, fragrance is not specifically addressed in any of the main sections that would or could normally address this. Thus I’m going to have to assume it is in fact a synthetic fragrance. That said, there are some other ingredients that are “harmful” according to EWG that are included because this is in fact an exfoliating peel. A peel SHOULD take off some layers on purpose but because of some of the ingredients, it gets a higher score even though I would still consider this a fairly healthy product. It ranks a 5 with the skin deep cosmetics database. This is why I always take the EWG scores with a grain of salt. I’m going to give this one a shot … after sniffing it to make sure the scent isn’t going to trigger my sinus allergies of course.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 3ModelCo BLUSH Cheek Powder in Peach Bellini – no cones, no fragrance, no parabens. But it does have paraffin and talc … neither of which feels right on my skin anymore for some reason. BUT this ranks pretty well with the cosmetics database at a 3. So although I probably won’t be trying this, it is healthy. Also another reason I typically don’t jump for joy over blush is that I have naturally rosy cheeks so I tend to stick with bronzer. Blushes tend to make me look a little …. overdone or clown-like and that’s not even about the quality or shade but my own skin. It IS however a really nice shade so if blush is your thing you might want to give this one a shot.

ewg skindeep cosmetics database score 4“Pencil Me In” Cosmetics Natural Eye Liner Pencil in Amethyst (purple) – no cones, no fragrances, no parabens, everything is looking good. But apparently vitamin A brings this one’s score down – it ranks a 4 with the skin deep cosmetics database. This is yet another score I’m going to take a grain of salt. I’m going to try this product especially since I don’t think purple is going to be a shade I wear daily.

And the bag this month is super cute. 🙂

Pantone Color of the year 2014 – radiant orchid

radiant orchid collage - sweaters dresses shirts shoes nails

Pantone, the leading authority on color trends for both print and style, has revealed the color of the year for 2014. Radiant Orchid is “a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones.” I’ve collaged some images above from pinterest in this sort of shade range.

Some Forever21 necklaces May 2012

I went to forever21 thinking I wanted the following necklace: Twisted Beaded Necklace $8.80
http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=acc_necklace&ProductID=1000046792&VariantID=

I’m sure it will look great on some people but it just wasn’t cutting it for me … or maybe it was just that shirt’s neckline.

So I tried on another: Tribal Beaded Necklace $9.80
http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=acc_necklace_bead&ProductID=1000044397&VariantID=

Better but I have no idea what earrings I would wear with this. Ideally I could find something in a gold but my current gold earrings are on the shiny side and not so tribal antique.

There are now some others that are new that I want to go in and try on.
I think Forever21 may be my new obsession.

Zoya “Lotus” with Essie “A Cut Above” and Sally Hansen Crackle polish in “Antique Gold”

I DO think that Zoya’s “Lotus” looks better with a top coat. Particularly Essie’s “A Cut Above” pink glittery top coat would be my choice.

It draws attention to some of the pink undertones that Lotus has but are hard to see. I still feel like this isn’t a very spring color for some reason. Maybe because I’m personally interested in pastels, golds and neons for spring. :/ 🙂
