OOTD – Military green pants, leopard ballet flats, fedora –
October 2 2013

Just a quick photo of what I wore today – Military green pants, leopard ballet flats, fedora.

Most of this outfit is actually from Kohl’s. I’m a little addicted to shopping there lately. I seem to find more pants that fit me there than anywhere else I seem to go for some reason and I’m not sure why. Really a fan of the Sonoma Life+Style and Apt. 9 brands when it’s coming to pants. Also not loathing crops and capris like I used to … and I’m not sure why.

The pants are Apt 9 “Skinny Crop jeans” in military green that I bought on clearance. I like the studded detail on the pockets. I had gone looking for the zippered front accent full length version but didn’t find them and ended up spotting these.

The fedora (hat) is also from Kohl’s. It’s the Apt 9 Ribbon Straw Fedora in tan (no longer available) – they still have the black and white versions in clearance. I’ve had this most of the summer but didn’t blog about it before. I bought a similar style hat from ebay that’s a little lighter because this one is just a little too much on a 90 degree day (I should do a hat post.) 70 degrees outside and this one is great. Also this one is crushable so it bounces back from being abused – thrown in cars, bags, I think I sat on it once…
The Leopard ballet flats are Lauren Conrad from Kohl’s. I bought them around Christmas 2011 (!!! ack) and have almost worn them out. They have been so well loved that I have had to glue one of the soles back down on the toe of one of the shoes. Honestly, leopard ballet flats should probably be a wardrobe staple so I need to find a good replacement. I’ve loved that these had comfortable elastic on the heel. (Open to suggestions on replacements!)
The basic black t-shirt – I have two that are identical (and I’m not sure which one I wore now that it’s in the hamper.) One was some brand I had never heard of but was nice, soft, thin but not too thin and a little drapey. And the other I ran across at Walmart for about $5 – it was identical to the $20 no name that I liked so much and really I haven’t been able to tell the difference between the two. What I got was either this or this from Walmart but I also have a dark purple t-shirt from Ann Taylor Loft that’s pretty much the same fabric and I think that is the Ann Taylor Loft everyday t which is less than $10 at the moment.
My bra is my “last resort, need to do laundry now” bra so it’s digging into my shoulders a little and I just noticed you can actually tell that in the photos. Oops… You don’t need to tell me I need a different bra than what I’m wearing in these photos – I already know.

What I wore: breezy spring Turquoise & Jeans

I’m very much a jeans girl. The darker, the better (but not black, black shows cat hair too much.) Deep deep navy, no distressing. HOWEVER when I’ve been wearing the same jeans for awhile they do in fact become somewhat faded which is the case with what I had on today. These are actually the lightest blue blue jeans that I own.

What I wore in these photos (this is really all over the place):

Top: Turquoise Shirt / Blouse / Tank from TJmaxx picked up last fall
Jeans: Walmart (ugh – yes, Walmart) from a few years ago
Shoes: Sandals / Flip Flops in red and tan with silver and crystal embellishment from a boutique in Bowling Green KY
Shrug / short sleeved jacket: Target from a couple of years ago
Necklace: long silver necklace from Chicos (really long ago)
Earrings: basic silver round hoops with a flattened edge from Talbots (also long ago … but I’m not sure how long because I have two pairs of the exact same earring bought at different times.)
Toenail polish: Zoya “Lo” … I need to repaint my fingernails.

I’ve been meaning to share more outfits of the day like this but just haven’t gotten around to it. I do however wear jeans a lot and I do re-wear a lot of the same outfits which means that sometimes what I wore just is not that interesting … or I think it wouldn’t be. We’ll see if I can make this more of a habit. Though don’t worry, I will probably not be posting every single day. You can see a pattern in the colors I tend to like photographing though. Lots of turquoise and teals and aqua… I swear I have other color shirts in my closet!

AND I’m sorry, these last couple of days I’ve been feeling rather prolific. I promise I will not keep this double posting nonsense up (I’m going to post something about coral and yellow jeans in a bit.) 🙂

Odd N Ends

First attempt at chevron and neon nails.

“and go and get yourself some cheap sunglasses…” I scratch my old sunglasses and needed some new. The kiosk mirrors were horrible so I was taking photos with my phone to get a better look.

Yeah the dresses are not working … was trying to find a dress for a wedding. I ended up wearing a skirt instead (it was a bajillion degrees, people were in all manner of dress.) It didn’t help that when I was trying on dresses I had been bitten by something (I think spider) and had a reaction that included mild systemic inflammation. I felt a good 10lbs heavier and poofy. :/

If this hadn’t been black I would have bought it. Perfect for hot weather, cute (cuter than in the photo) but not a wedding guest dress. Not in KY, not in the daytime. I feel like a sausage - talbot's outlet

Cute but too “fall”… also not what I was shopping for.

Moved on to shoes.

Better but wanted a little darker… these are cute however and I might go back.

LOVED these navy nautical wedges but they got veto’d for a wedding. A little over the top. I was already wearing neon nail polish. TJ Maxx so close.

Outfit of the day: Yellow, Black & White

Yellow is a thifted tank top & vintage costume jewelry bracelet from my late great aunt’s stash.
Black is the short sleeve jacket from Target (purchased a few year ago) & Bauble Bar bracelet via on of my Birchboxes (though I didn’t participate in this contest and it creeps me out a little that Justin Bieber apparently wears this bracelet.)
White is the stripes in the tank top, another vintage bracelet, & the earrings I made from a pair of vintage clip on earrings.

What do you think? Good combo? Overkill on the arm candy? 🙂

Another thrifted clothing haul –

So I needed a break from a particular project yesterday and ended up shopping for 3 hours … 3 hours was a little more than I was going for but I found some good finds.

Let’s start with my favorite piece that didn’t fit – the neon shirt. I SO wanted this to fit!!! I have been obsessed with neons and neutrals and this is SUCH a cute shirt!

Baltimore Design Group which I think is a Chadwick’s line.

Next up the black with tiny polka dot golf shorts. They’re a little higher waisted than I like so I’m debating whether these will go to consignment or not. I also don’t wear a lot of shorts. :/

Next up, the green skirt and the navy gap shirt. I have a picture of the skirt on me but I look like a watermelon because I was trying everything on with the hot pink tank. Which reminds me – the reason I put the clothes on the mannequin today was because my allergies are acting up and the scented detergent on them was bothering me.

Next up I have the Merona pink knit dress. Basic but something I can dress up or down. It will look better with a cardigan and some jewelry I think.

While I’m on a roll with pink, I’ll go ahead and show you the Gap Body sweater hoodie. A little out of season but in good condition and I didn’t want to pass it up.

And then the Talbot’s linen crop pants in mint. They’re a mint color that’s also hard to get a good photograph of but they were new with tags and a nice find. They have a bow tie that I’m thinking about converting to a D ring belt because I think the bow is a bit awkward looking on me. I’m also not a huge fan of cropped pants and typically try to avoid them but I kinda liked these a little too much to pass.

A couple more that I’m selling because they’re too small: BB Jeans blue tunic with embroidered detail, Ann Taylor tunic, Talbots pink skirt (new with tags again.)

And then a few more I’m keeping: Tommy Hilfiger black button up blouse with tiny polka dots (see a theme?), Express light flowy tank with black and white flowers, and The Limited short sleeve with gray stripe blouse.

And a couple more shirts – I can’t remember the brands at the moment but they’re both super soft and in great condition:

So yeah … about $50 worth – quite a nice haul for $50
(though I think they miscounted and my total ended up being $41.34 oops!)
Adds a lot more variety to my wardrobe.

And one more thing, not purchased yesterday but about a week ago,
the ties we thrifted for Tim.
$1.50 each plus $3.50 drycleaning (just gotta clean the thifted items.)

These were Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, Club Room, Gap and DKNY!

I’m thinking about trying to take more photos of the outfits we’re putting together for Tim. Any interest in guy’s outfits posted here too?
