John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves

Although I’m not a blonde, I loved Beach Blonde Ocean Waves… if I buy any product more than once I usually really love it. The bad thing is that somehow most of the products I fall in love with get quickly discontinued. Now that I’m getting towards the end of the bottle I have here I decided to write the company to see if they had plans to bring it back or for information on where to find an online retailer that still had some in stock. Below is their response:

“Thank you for your interest in Beach Blonde. All of Beach Blonde is now discontinued due to low sales. We will have a replacement product for Ocean Waves only called Brilliant Brunette Starlit Waves in Feb of 2006. Starlit Waves can be used on any hair color. You may still be able to get Beach Blonde products via medichest.com or folica.com while supplies last.

Please try our Sheer Blonde line for possible Beach Blonde substitutes as follows: Kelp Help – Blonde Hair Repair Cool Dip – Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Shampoos Smooth Seas – Sheer Blonde Glistening Perfection Conditioners

Thank you for the opportunity to be of service.”

Yay! Just thought I would share. 🙂

As for Ocean Waves, it doesn’t create curls when you have none really, it just helps to bring out what you have naturally. Be careful to not apply too much because if you do, you’ll end up feeling and looking a bit oily

Wow – 6 years after they discontinued it and they mentioned it on the Today show?!

I did love how it smelled and made my hair look if I was air drying it. I haven’t found anything quite like it.

Has anyone tried the Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray? How does it compare?

  2. Please bring back John Frieda Beach Blond Ocean Waves!!! It was just mentioned on the Today show today and I have not seen it for years. A lot of us beach blond gals would love to have it back!! It was my most favorite leave in spray ever!! I bought 12 bottles when it was getting hard to find a few years ago and I need more.

I cant’ believe the sales were low for the Beach Blonde Ocean Wave. I tried this product once and knew it was for me, so I bought another bottle. I loved it and was going to buy more but after my second purchase I couldn’t find on the shelf anymore. I would have stocked up had I know would be discontinued. I don’t think it was advertised enough to be a big seller. Not enough girls new about it. With the styles out today they should bring back one last time. I loved the product.

I haven’t even bothered looking for this product in years now. That’s awful that someone decided to use it in a magazine well after the product had been discontinued. I doubt you’ll be able to find much of it left let alone at a reasonable price.

I know it has been plenty of years since it became discontinued, but looking in a 2009 hairstylist magazine, they mentioned it for a certain style! I can’t believe they even reccomended it if it’s not even in stores anymore!!! grrr! I still really want it though, but don’t feel the need to pay 50-90 bucks for it! Any websites that might still carry the product???
    Please Help!!! 🙁

I have found Ocean Waves for sale on ebay still – the price wasn’t store price but it’s not a complete rip off either. As for the Starlit Waves – even when I asked they said “Starlit Waves can be used on any hair color.” It’s not a tinted product like some of the shampoos are. I actually have brown hair and loved everything from the Beach Blond line before they killed it.

  7. Has anyone tried the Brunette Starlit Waves? I’m almost at the end of my bottle of Ocean Waves, and as they don’t sell the Starlit Waves in the UK, would have to import.
I have blonde hair, so don’t know if whether it’s made for Brunettes it will affect my colour?
    Thanks, Emma 🙂

Well the next thing I’m going to try is this:
    http://shop.meetmark.com/shop/product.asp?newdept=&s=MarkCustHTML0504GreekIsles&c=Email&otc=markInstantVacationGreekIslesSeaSaltStylingSpray&bnd=&pf_id=31118&level1_id=300&level2_id=469&pdept_id=536&dept_id=543
It’s mark Instant Vacation Greek Isles Sea Salt Styling Spray

It’s new so I doubt anyone can report on it yet but if they can, please let us know what you think of it. How it compares to the Beach Blond if you can etc. Might be a couple of weeks before I try it.

I am still trying to find BEACH BLONDE OCEAN WAVES at one of those websites that has discontinued items. HELP! I want THIS PRODUCT, the rest aren’t even CLOSE!

  10. Bumble and Bumble is coming out with Surf Spray (also a sea salt spray) hoping to get same results as ocean waves. I’m down to the last of the last bottle of ocean waves.
    P. S. To get great waves try twisting hair or briad. Big twist, the twist don’t need to be tight, gives loose waves. For just more texture, spray lightly, finger comb, flip head upside down, shake, standup and go.

Has anyone tried the substitute that they recommend, the Starlit Waves?? How is it?

  12. THANK YOU for posting this information. Without it, I would probably still be freaking out now that I came to the end of my bottle and learned the ocean waves version had been discontinued.
